NSGD PT was described to me as the "Disneyland of the Orient" and it lived up to the description. Anjong-ni was a single sailor's playpen. Fun times and learned a lot from "salty ole farts" there. Catchy names such as "Animal, Fast Freddie, Moo, Worm, Mo, Toki, Boo Boo, Fat, Hat, Dig it, Snag, Snug, Sandy, Zappa, JJ, Mouse, RJ, Mad Dog, Colonel, WJ, Rickshaw, and many others made for great shipmates. 6/23/2014 1.FullName: Roland J. While at Chinhae saw the 69 moon landing via Korean TV. Quite impressive. Along with RM2 Keith Wiley were the team to beat at shuffle board at Duffy's EM Club. Took on all comers and usually won. Got married in Aug 69 on leave in Fukuoka, Japan. Rented a house/hooch from a Korean Navy Commander for us to stay in for remainder of tour. Another good tour. 4/3/2014 1.FullName: Rebecca L. A group of 5 of us based at NSGA Torii Station Okinawa arrived . It was part of an ERF effort that consisted of Lt. Driesbach, CT?1 Landon, CTI2 (Kor) John Lippke, CTR3 Ron Postick, and CTR3 Roland "Speedy" Stallings. We left Oki morning after the seizure. Day of briefing in Kami Seya then off to Osan. More breifings with AFSS folks - lot of my Korean classmates were there. Then off to Pyong taek. Briefed and met up with old Army classmates (ASA). (I was the only squid in our class in Monterey). No one had a clue what we were doing there so after about a week the powers that be thought it be best if we went back to Kami Seya to await orders. Had fun in Yokohama for several days calling back to base daily to see what was happening. Well, they sent all but me back to Oki and thought it would be a great idea to get me on a COD flight out to the Enterprise so I could be choppered over to the USS Chicago, CG11 where there was a CT det. Spent a couple weeks playing sailor a have a great time. Then the Enterprise and group was ordered back to the Gulf on Tonkin. Hey, what about me? (should have kept my mouth shut) as when the next oiler refueled us I was on deck with my seabag while the deck apes strung up the high like. Talk about the pucker factor. Was in the general berthing quarters for about a week heading back to Sasebo. I tell you those deckhands on that oiler were a strange brew. Watched a guy take 20 minutes trying to work the combination lock so he could get in his locker. I didn't have any assignment, so I just hung out reading and drinking coffee on the mess deck. Oh, yeah that was my GQ station - mess deck and stay out of the way. Anyway, Sasebo back to Kami Seya, hmm, the Coral Sea is heading out of Yokosuka to show force in the SOJ to join the Det. So, I think we cruised around the SOJ for about 3 weeks before the US called off the dogs and the Coral Sea headed back to Yokosuka where it was going into dry dock. Checked back in with Kami Seya - didn't give me any berthing, and said call in daily. That went on for a few weeks and someone back in Oki enquired to the section chief - what ever happened to Lippke (jerk). So, back to Oki for a few months before it was time to saddle up for a second gig with Det Bravo in Danang with VQ1. Anyway, I think we were the first Navy men at Pyong Teak in case you want to award up with a plank owner cert. 7/1/2013 1.FullName: Steve Anderson 2.NickName: 3.ArriveDate: 1984 4.DepartDate: 1985 5.RateRating: CTR1 6.Duty: PyongTaek 7.Email: stevegand@aol.com 8.OnLineRoster: Yes 9.Comments: 10/12/2012 1.FullName: Alan Smith 2.NickName: 3.ArriveDate: Nov 78 4.DepartDate: Jun 91 5.RateRating: CTIC(NAC) 6.Duty: PyongTaek 7.Email: haygunnohm@comcast.net 8.OnLineRoster: No 9.Comments: 3 tours 78-81, 82-85, 88-91 5/16/2012 1.FullName: Joel Friedman 2.NickName: 3.ArriveDate: 1/72 4.DepartDate: 8/72 5.RateRating: CTR3 6.Duty: PyongTaek 7.Email: jfriedmanaz@yahoo.com 8.OnLineRoster: Yes 9.Comments:
