NAVDET Ramasun was located about 18km south of Udorn.
Ramasun Station was named after the God of Thunder of Thai mythology.
It was the home of the 7th Radio research Field Station, "Cobra-7."
In the midseventies, it was the largest and most complex effort of
its kind in Southeast Asia. There currently is a 7th RRFS website
with photos, a roster, etc. Of course that site is maintained by
ASA vice NSG personnel.
During about March, 1976, due to student demonstrations, the station
virtually ceased operations. As a matter of fact emergency destruction
including destruction of the FLR antenna system took place. NSG personnel
all were issued orders and we departed in mid-April. The army completed
closure of the base shortly thereafter.
