Billy-Ace Baker, RMC USN Retired, 1954-1986 When I was in boot camp due to my battery tests I guess they classified me as a CTO because I didn't do very well on the Morse Code test. When I lost my clearance and became a Radioman is another story. I was a CT2 and received orders to the six month long RM "A" school in San Diego. The school staff took advantage of my experience and made me an instructor in the typing classes and for the TTY operator classes teaching message format and tape relay procedures. I did good in RM "A" school and graduated top of my class with a 96 average, I would have aced the course but I blew up a transmitter in the equipment phase. What the hell, I was an O brancher and had never seen a transmitter before. Oh, I did improve my Morse Code skills, but being left handed I never was very good and during my 32 year career (26 as a Radioman) I avoided transmitter sites. Billy-Ace (former CTO)
