Above Left photo - Saitozaki looking downtown fire tower 1962. Shows the town tower which had two purposes, fire alarm and town announcements from the speakers. Many rural communities still use outdoor speakers for such use. The primary school in the city where we rented an apartment for 3 years made public announcements for the local children using such a setup. The one which irked me the most was when they advised all children at six p.m. each day, that it was time for them to be at home.
