Michael E. McDonald, CT2 USN, 1951-1954 I guess some things never change. In 1951, I entered the Navy at Great Lakes. While being screened by the medical people. I was evaluated by the Dr's for deficient vision[not news to me]. It was determined that I failed the Navy eye test. 20/20 right 20/200 left. Ordinarily I would have been sent home but the Dr. indicated that because of the wartime condition[Korea], "If we don't take you, the Army will."!! So I was enlisted in the Navy under an Army regulation. The only stipulation was that I could not stand shipboard watches as a lookout. Later, in basic training, we were evaluated and asked what we were interested in. I indicated that I wanted to go to Radio School. I was told that was out of the question. I could go to something called CT school in San Diego. So off I went to San Diego. Upon arriving at NTC San Diego I was directed to Radio School!! So I got to attend Radio School after all. It turned out well in the end. Michael McDonald Skaggs I 52 Guam 52-54 Skaggs I 54 CT2 K3IVR [52 years]
