From Danny K. Shepherd:

Thought I'd send along a very rare look at the very first station patch for Sinop. Unlike the later
plaque image, this patch was the work of the sailors of NAVDET 4 at Sinop in 1966, when the
very first PCS personnel were assigned to that dusta. CT2 Bill Myrons helped design the patch
and authored the translated patch slogan, "Give me some slack" into Turkish. He was the
resident "I" branch Turkish linguist at the time.

From Bill Myrons:

Although Danny Shepherd gives me a lot of credit for the design, I really only provided the
Turkish. John Crossley was the one that came up with the idea for a patch. John Crossley and
Tony Gales were the ones who designed it. John wanted to find out how effective the slogan
worked and one morning when he was returning to the hill on a bus with a load of Turkish
workers chatting among themselves, he yelled "Bana Lacka verin!" and an immediate hush
settled and the bus remained quiet the rest of the way.
