Where do I start. I guess it was during boot camp in the summer of 1963. I enlisted straight after high school graduation. Entering boot camp, I didn't know what rating I wanted to go into. During boot camp I remember taking the morse code recognition test. I found it easy. Later on, during boot camp I was called to the personnel office and because of my good score on the test, I could select Radioman or Communitions Technician. I thought CT sounded more interesting. I was later informed I was selected to attend CTR A school in Pensacola, FL. When I arrived at Corry Field I had to wait a couple of weeks to start school and take a typing test, which I passed. I started in R branch school at first. After completing basic and intermediate R branch school. I was selected for T branch school. I was fortunate to go straight through intermediate and advanced school as my TS/SCI clearance came through. Once finishing T branch school, I was selected to attend two additional weeks for Boresight Equipment Operator school. I was then stationed at NAVCOMSTA, Adak, AK of all places. I found it a good experience and was able to study for and be promoted to CTT3. After my tour in Adak was over, I finished my enlistment at NAVCOMSTA Sabana Seca, PR. Upon separation in October of 1966, I applied, interviewed and was hired by the National Security Agency (NSA). I feel very fortunate to be selected for the Communications Technician rating. I found the work very interesting and challenging. Also, it providing me the background and experience for my NSA career. Ironically, during my NSA career I was a shift supervisor and had CT's on my team. Regards Barry Stewart (former CTT3) June 1963- October 1966
