_____________You are reporting aboard the most recently constructed U. S.
__________Military facility in the Philippines. San Miguel, the locally
__________used name for our base, was established in 1958. Since commis-
__________sioning, the base has had constant growing pains, and is current-
__________ly undergoing a multi-faceted construction program, which is de-
__________signed to facilitate the personnel increases of the past few
__________years and the base's expanded responsibilities.
_____________The Naval Communication Station Philippines is a primary ele-
__________ment of the Southeast Asian communications network, performing
__________a vital role in support of the Seventh Fleet. The station has
__________recently received its second Navy Unit Commendation. A secondary,
__________but highly important part of San Miguel's mission is to foster
__________friendly relations with our hosts, the Filipino people. We have
__________established and successfully maintained this rapport with the
__________Filipinos through a locally conceived and directed "People-to-
__________People program. It is hoped that you, after arrival, will con-
__________tribute your time to this worthwhile endeavor.
