My memory has a couple blank spots, but believe some of the class went straight to Kami Seya, a big chunk of them went to Guam, and four of us Armstrong, Dallman, Chyall, and Haskell went to Wahiawa for 4 mos FFT we got there about Nov '57 stood Scoop watches.. (then) Boot Chief Lenny Schnieder was our Watch Chief.. Feb of '58 Dallman and Haskell were shipped to Midway and Chyall and I went to Kwajalein.. April of '59 the 4 of us went to Kami Seya where we caught up with the majority of the other classmates just before they started transferring to other places. In Feb 1959 I was eligible for an early out (kiddee crruise) I got out for 85 days, had 7.5 jobs, Re-enlisted and recvd orders to NSGD Com7thFlt, Yokosuka Japan... Mike Dallman shipped over, at Kami Seya for orders to some other exotic duty sta.. Brian Haskell married a Japanese girl, was attached to Permanent Shore patrol in Yokohama for a couple years, Converted from CT1 to RM1 - retired as a CWO4 in Stockton, CA. John McAvoy was rumored to have went back to NY, became a cop and was killed in the line of duty. Gary Chyall allegedly went to work for the CIA as did a few other old shipmates of his and mine. the others I've lost track of.. Chief Melhorn I remember seeing his name in a Cryptolog article.. He was a Ham I know... Ken Crowley who was a class or two behind me at IB was at Kami Seya same time frame, and has attempted to keep in contact with as many of the old crew as possible.. He also maintains a file of old section one and three party pictures taken down in China town and on "the cho"... A very nostalgic experience to look at those old party photos... (:>))
