Wayne Boyd Baldwin, CTTCS(SS) USN Retired, 1958-1979 As most entries I have read concerning life in the Naval Security began in boot camp, security screening and boot testing which I believed pointed towards "radio something or typewriter repair". Class A school, The boot consular was not very helpful other than telling me that a lowly SA would be doing something special for the CNO, person in charge of the Navy. Starting summer 1959 after San Diego boot, I was ordered (in the dark), as follows: 26 weeks full CTR training at NTTC Imperial Beach, CA, moved in May 1960 to Goodfellow AFB, Texas (complete basic radio printer school) and on to ELINT tainting in fall to Washington, DC graduating winter 1960. Out of this training cycle popped came a brand new "CTT" late 1960 heading at my choice of OUTCONUS duty January. 1961 at NSGA Sakata, Japan via NSGA Kami Seya, Japan. This information seems to be vanilla flavor as many CTTSN's in the early 1960's, Shore duty my butt the fun began at or on shore at Sakata: climbing mountains, working first general satellite stuff, submarine duty in the fall of 1961 and out of TGU Kami Seya on ships and airborne with VQ-1 headquartered a few miles away from Kami Seya at NAS Atsugi. You will see my adventure from 1959 thru 1979 flashed by very fast. Qualified submarines aboard USS Blueback (SS-581), enough flying hours with VQ-1 to qualify Flight Observer status, but CT's "didn't fly" way back when, and plenty of skimmer time to qualify Enlisted Surface Warfare, invented sometime after leaving sea duty.
