Stan H. Beet CTT3 1970-1974 I had just graduated with an AA degree and my draft number indicated I was going upon graduation. I decided at that time to enlist instead of finishing my BS degree as the nam war was hot and heavy in 1970. Originally I looked at the Marines as an officer candidate but my then fiancé ended that decision right quick. The Air Force was full so off to the Navy. I took the test and qualified for everything but language school. I thought the nuclear program was a good choice although that was a six year commitment. I lucked out with a great recruiter who did not let me sign the two year extension. His comment was wait for boot camp and then sign the papers. Because of the program I got to select what boot camp I wanted to attend and I selected the new facility in Orlando, FL. Of course you had to retake all the tests and my results were the same. Boot camp was sixteen weeks at that time. When we got to the point for the career I decided it was not for me and opted out of the nuclear program. I was talked at, screamed at and threatened with being sent out to the fleet scraping paint for six years. My reply was I made all high scores on everything sans language and the Navy would not waste me and besides I had not signed the two year extension. After another session of loud voices led to the fact that indeed I had not signed the extension and the tone returned to normal. I was sent out of the room back to my group not knowing what was next. My buddy in the my basic asked me what had occurred as it was rather loud for all to hear. I told him my story and he told me to walk down the hall to a certain door and speak to the individual in the room. At the time I did not know that my buddy was going to become a CTA. After the knock on the door, I spoke to the individual who was there who then closed the door and immediately interrogated med as to to who told me about this office and what was I told which was absolutely nothing. Once that hurdle had passed I later found out weeks later that I was going to be a CTT. Stan H. Beet CTT3 1970-1974
