Mary Ann Diez Floyd, CTICM USN Retired, 1983-2006 In 1983, I was in my third year of college at the University of West Florida in Pensacola. I was partying way too hard, probably going to flunk out, and couldn't see myself going back home with nothing to do there. All those Navy guys I kept meeting in town seemed like they were having a good time, so I went down to the recruiter to see what the Navy might have for me. Took the ASVAB, scored well, and when the recruiter said "what's your top three?", I said, CTI, PH, or JO. He said, "there's a one year wait for all of them." To which I replied, "don't call me, I'll call you." Well, just days later he did call, said he had a female on delayed enlistment who had decided not to enlist, but that if I could pass the DLAB, I could have her guaranteed spot in Monterey after boot camp. I bit, and less than two weeks later, I was at boot camp. Went on to language school and the rest is history. A quick decision, but probably the best one I've ever made. M.A. Floyd CTICM, USN (ret)
