Story about Midway's Dogs from Ace Crawford

I remember that when I got to Midway, in Sept '60, there were two dogs on Eastern Island. Their names were Boats and Fritz. I transferred off-island in Nov '61. In the interim, Fritz was killed, accidentally run over by one of the guys driving our dump truck, and we had acquired two new dogs, Herman von Weiner Dog (a miniature dachshund) and Lonnie (a Springer spaniel (?)). All of the dogs had the run on the operations spaces, but someone had the bright idea of getting a security clearance for Herman. He had his own badge, which he wore while in the secure space. We got Lonnie, because she had a history of biting, and it was either put her on Eastern Island, where she could bite only CTs, or put her to sleep. To my knowledge, she didn't bite any of the people on Eastern Island while I was there.
