Attached is my photo of the USS Palm Beach (AGER 3) taken not too long
after commissioning in Bremerton, Washington.. I was a CTI1 assigned as
the traffic analyst. Lt. Fine was OIC, CTTCS Pete Dorn was AOIC. Other
plank owner's were CTI2 Claus Roberts CTISN Swanson, CTI3 Erickson, CTM1
Dave Mayberry. I'll send more names when I find them. The Palm Beach
was commissioned in Bremerton on 13 May 1967 as AKL 45 in a joint
ceremony with USS Pueblo (AKL 44). Our designation was change shortly
thereafter to AGER 3. (Banner was AGER 1, Pueblo was AGER 2) . We went
through the Panama Canal to Norfolk (some interesting stories about that
trip). I made Chief in Norfolk. Initiated at NSGA Northwest. We were
in Norfolk when USS Pueblo was captured. Since we were the sister ship,
we had a lot of visitors, etc. Then in Spring 1968 we deployed to Holy
Loch, Scotland and then on into the Norwegian Sea. We worked the
Norwegian Sea for about 3-4 months and visited Trondheim, Stavenger, and
Tromso Norway. Biggest excitement was watching the Soviet Northern
Fleet steam by us on the way to the North Atlantic. Then returned to
Holy Loch where I got off. Palm Beach did a port call in Belfast,
Ireland then returned to Norfolk. The next year Palm Beach went to the Med.
