I entered the Navy 02 January 1957 - received my 'boots' at Bainbridge, Maryland Recruit Naval Training Center - and was selected for this rating called Communications Technician and was sent off to San Diego and out to Imperial Beach for CT Receiving School - in the final days 'they' came through 'the cage' and requested that all personnel that had language training to proceed to Room #?? and take an aptitude test - well, I must have done good - I was shipped out to Anacosta Naval Station and assigned to the Office of Naval Intelligence Language Training Facility to something about the Russian language. Then off to this new station in Karamursel, Turkey - I went native and wanted to complete my four year hitch there but the Navy said they needed me at this station in Japan - well, when I arrived there I decided to make the Navy a career - ended up in the Fifth Division the 'TAD' Division - many exciting days - then the Navy needed me in this place called Morocco but stop off at the NSA for school first. Morocco was not exactly my piece of cake - so I headed for the Sixth Fleet for a break - back to FGGM for duty - getting married - doing TAD - and having a beautiful daughter (she now lives a few hours from you in The Woodlands, Texas - very proud of this wonderful daughter) - then for my vacation tour in Sabana Seca, Puerto Rico - just loved havin' our Christmas turkey on the beach - then it seems that BUPERS did some great planning and sent a whole crew back to Kami Seya - it was like ol' home week - but, sadly, to close it down and move bag and baggage to the north at Misawa - the Air Force really didn't want to see this bunch coming. Well, we welcomed the arrival of our son Kevin - now a CTR1(SS) stationed with NIWA at the ONI in Suitland, Maryland (couldn't be more proud of this guy) - and then wrapped things up to return to FGGM for a final tour - actually was selected for CTRCM - but turned it down as I had my 20 in and the time was right to depart - on 03 January 1977 - 20 years and 1 day. Then off to the Office of Naval Intelligence for another 18.4 years - 'the wall' came down - but, Saddam came roaring in so I stayed for all that - then the Navy said we really do need to reduce and here is a little money if you will leave early - whatever the Navy needs I give. My former secretary Diana Dunbar - wife of Frederick "Freddy" Dunbar, LT, USN (ret) - had moved to Citrus County Florida and Angela "Lena" and I were invited to come for a visit - we fell in love with this place and here we are after 38.4 years in the Naval Service.
