James L. Wilson, CTTC USN, 1958-1971 I enlisted in March of 1958 in Roswell, New Mexico. I went in as a HSSR (High School Seaman Recruit) and was assured I'd receive a Navy school upon completion of boot camp. Went to Boot Camp in San Diego, and when I went to classification I told the interviewer I'd like any electronics school since I wanted to 'work on' electronics equipment. My Company Comander had told me to ask for Fire Control Tech or Electronic Tech. This I did. The Interviewer then suggested (pretty much told me!) that I should go for Communication Technician. He informed me that "...CTs did the same thing as ETs and Fts." Of course, he didn't know anymore than I did so I agreed. Was sent to Imperial Beach to the NCTC. When I was sent to morse training, everyone told me the 'repair' part would come in 'advanced' school. This even from those students in advanced school. In short, I became a CTR (later switching to CTT and became a DIRSUP rider out of Pearl Harbor and Kami Seya) James L. Wilson CTTC
